DIY Light Fixture Redo

We have been in the process of redecorating our family room for a few months now. I've been buying and selling furniture on Craigslist and trying to figure out the final look that I want to go with. This past weekend, I finally decided on a paint color and my hubby was so sweet to paint for me. I promise to share photos as soon as we get our new floors installed and hang a few more pictures.

In the family room was an ugly brass light fixture hanging by the door. I hated the look of it, but loved the light it provided. I checked out some other sconces to replace it, but couldn't find any that I liked that were in my price range. So I decided to give my light fixture a little redo.

It was so simple to do and didn't take much time or money. My husband spray painted the fixture. First with a coat of primer, followed by 3 coats of white paint. I made the lampshades using self-adhesive lamp shades that I purchased at my local craft store. The lamp shades came with a pattern template that I traced onto my fabric and then simply pressed the fabric onto the shades. I glued on some coordinating trim using my hot glue gun. It seriously only took me about 5 minutes to make the shades.

Here is a picture of it with the lights turned on. I love it!

So if you have any ugly light fixtures that you want to get rid of, try a little redo first to see if they will work for you. You never know what hidden beauties you may have!

Always,
