DIY Easy Holiday Throw Pillow

We had a Christmas party at our house last night, and as I was decorating the sun porch in red and lime green, I realized that my sun porch couch did not look festive enough. I looked around the house for some "holiday-ish" pillows or blankets, but couldn't find anything. It was only minutes before the party, so I had to think fast. I knew I had some pretty holiday fabric that I had purchased a few weeks ago to make one of these, but never got around to it. I thought I could make a quick pillow cover, but when I grabbed the fabric, it wasn't enough to cover the pillow. So I decided to make a belt/sash of sorts for a red pillow I had, and it did the job well. Here is an easy tutorial:

Take 1/2 yard of holiday fabric (or however much you need to fit around your pillow), and fold it so the printed side of the fabric is on the inside. Sew the entire length of the fabric.

You will now have a "tube". Turn the tube inside out and iron so that the seam is centered on one side.

Fold tube in half with the seam on the outside and sew the open end together so that it will fit around the pillow snugly. (I didn't take the time to measure, so I had to sew it several times to get the right fit.)

Turn your tube inside out so that the side with the center seam is now on the inside. Slide onto your pillow hiding the end seam on the back, and now you have yourself a holiday pillow!

It only took about 5 minutes to make, and when Christmas is over, I can have my old pillow back. I think I'm going to start coordinating my couch pillows with all my porch parties. My husband says I have a throw pillow addiction. I think he might be right.

Always,
