Last week, I purchased Buddy his first pair of scissors so that I can start teaching him how to cut paper. Our first cutting activity was making snow flakes out of coffee filters. I folded them in half three times, and let him cut small slits all the way around. Then I went back and turned his slits into triangles. Aside from almost cutting my finger off one or twice, he did a really great job! Using white sewing thread, we hung our snowflakes from the ceiling in the playroom in front of our big window overlooking the beautiful snow covered front yard.
We tried to play outside in the snow for little while the first day, but because we have more ice than snow, we haven't been able to make a snowman. So I thought we would make one indoors.
We gathered paper lunch bags, plastic grocery sacks, rubber bands and white craft paint...
Buddy stuffed one paper bag as full as he could with plastic grocery sacks...
Then I slid the other paper bag down on top...
I took three rubber bands and created a snowman body...
Then Buddy painted the snowman white using craft paint...
(Tip: If you use plastic tablecloths for parties, wipe them down and save them to re-use to protect your kitchen table at craft time. You can cut the rectangle ones in half to get double use out of them.)
We allowed Mr. Snowman to dry for a couple of hours and then had fun "accessorizing" him. I made him a hat and carrot nose using felt and a glue gun. We gave him pipe cleaner arms, "googly" eyes, a few buttons, and made a scarf from some scrap flannel I had.
After that, I talked hubby into going out and getting us some snow so that I could make snow cream. I mixed some snow with milk, sugar and vanilla extract in the Kitchen Aid Mixer and BAM...snow cream. It was yummy!
It's been a fun week. I have enjoyed being home. We are always on the go, so it has been nice to slow down a little bit.
Always,
Amanda
