Last Wednesday was Little Man's first birthday.
We had a birthday lunch for him at my husband's parents house.
Because he seems to have a sensitive stomach, I made him a sugar-free applesauce and banana birthday cake and cupcake using this recipe.
I iced it using Cool Whip mixed with a bit of pure vanilla extract. It tasted pretty good. Kind of like banana bread. But being the picky eater that he is, he wouldn't touch it.
We had his actual birthday party on Saturday. I went with a barnyard theme because he loves to play with his Fisher-Price Little People Farm. And I found these cute barnyard party plates!
It was easy to decorate. I pretty much just used all of our farm toys and stuffed animals. My mother-in-law bought some farm-themed goodies and I tied them up in red bandannas for the kids to take home.
I made a barn cake and animal cupcakes following the directions on this video. All in all, it was a pretty easy party to pull off. And lots of fun!
Of course, I had to make Little Man a birthday outfit.
I made the pants using this pattern and appliqued a "1" on a white onesie with red bandanna fabric. I also made the birthday hat (and the blue and red one shown earlier). I took lots of photos during the process so I can post a tutorial for you, because I couldn't find a tutorial I liked anywhere. I should be able to put that up tomorrow.
We gave Little Man a Radio Flyer Wagon that we got for a good deal on Craigslist. He loved it! We were blessed with a beautiful Spring-like weather on the day of his party, so his Papa took him on lots of rides around the yard.
I think he knows he turned one. He is already acting like a big boy. But he will always be my sweet baby!
Always,
Amanda
