Storytime Apron

I'm not quite sure where I first heard of this, but I have been wanting to make a "storytime apron" for quite some time. For those of you not familiar with the concept, a "storytime apron" is an apron with a lot of pockets used to hide small items that go along with the story that you are telling. It's a fun way to make a story really come alive for your children.

I knew that I wanted my apron to be fun and colorful. I was browsing the "as-is" textile bin at IKEA a few weeks ago, and came across a bed sheet from the children's department. I used that sheet as my color inspiration and went through my fabric stash to find coordinating fabrics for the waistband, sash and pockets.

I couldn't find a pattern online that I liked, so I just made one up. It came together quite easily. I had fun making and embellishing all of the different pockets!

I used the apron this week to sing the old song "Skip To My Lou" based on a little storybook we have. For my small objects, I just used some toy farm animals that the boys have.

"Flies in the sugarbowl, shoo fly shoo"...(fly swatter)
"Cats in the buttermilk, two by two"...(We do not have a toy cat, so I used a number "2" puzzle piece)
"Pigs in the parlor, what'll I do"... (toy pig)
"Cows in the kitchen, moo cow moo"...(toy cow)
"Roosters in the pantry, cock-a-doodle-do"... (no roosters, so I used a toy chicken)
"Sheep in the bathtub, hulla-baloo"...(toy sheep)

Buddy LOVED this! He has asked me to do it over and over again. He also put on his apron and did it for me and Little Man.

Storytime Apron...success!

Always,
