Frugal and Creative Gift Giving

I have never been one of those girls that enjoy shopping at the mall.  But take me to a thrift store and I am in heaven! I don't know what I love more, saving money or the thrill of the find.

Here are some Christmas gifts ideas that you may find at your local thrift store...

Picture Frames

I purchased most of the picture frames for my photo wall from the thrift store for under a dollar. A simple coat of paint followed by a little sandpaper distressing, made these frames as stylish as a frame you would spend $15+ for at a department store.

Here is a larger frame that my husband cut a piece of wood to fit that I painted with chalkboard paint. Everyone needs a fun chalkboard in their house!

If you find a really large frame, you can staple some chicken wire to the back and gift it as a unique "bulletin board." Glue some cute flowers to clothespins as the perfect second gift. Check out my "I Heart Flowers" Pinterest Board for some creative handmade flower inspiration.

Jars

I get all of my jars from the thrift store. There are plenty of creative ways to give gifts in a jar.

For your crafty friends, here a some ideas in a tutorial from Little Miss Momma.

For the sweets lover, give Cupcakes in a Jar from Cakies.

Vintage Sheets

When I go thrifting, I always stop by the bedding and linens. I love vintage sheets and pillowcases, and I am starting a nice little collection.

What do you get when you combine a vintage sheet, a few clamps from Home Depot and a flashlight?

A DIY Fort Kit! What kid wouldn't love this?

I know mine do!

Those are just a few of my favorite things to go thrifting for. Over the next few days I will share some more frugal and creative gift ideas from Craigslist (my other love) and a few homemade gifts you can give.

I'd love to hear about your frugal and creative gifts. Please leave a comment and feel free to add a link to any ideas you may have blogged about.

Always,

Amanda
