A Love Story {Chapter 6}

It was a warm day in May of '03. The stained glass cross glowed in the darkened sanctuary as the sunlight streamed through, casting glorious hues of color on the altar. Candles twinkled and doves cooed as he stood there, waiting for his bride.

He looked around the beautiful old church that his grandfather had built. The walls of this sanctuary had witnessed so many of his family and friends pledge their love and their lives, and now it was his turn. He watched as the doors slowly opened.

She squeezed her Daddy's arm as they walked down the long hallway toward the sanctuary. The day she had been dreaming about since she was a young girl had finally arrived. She had always imagined that she would be nervous on her wedding day. She was never fond of being in the spotlight, and any other situation that would cause all eyes to be on her would have caused her heart to race and her stomach to ache. But instead of nervousness or anxiety, she felt an overwhelming peace and joy. This truly was the best day of her life. She took a deep breath as the doors slowly opened.

It was a beautiful wedding ceremony. With tears in their eyes, they pledged their love and committed their lives to each other before God and their family and friends. As they took of communion, they truly felt the presence of the Lord as His Spirit witnessed the union of the two He had so lovingly brought together.

With smiles on their faces, the once red-cheeked boy and frizzy-haired girl with the big glasses, were now husband and wife. With eleven years of shared history behind them, and a lifetime of history still to make, they walked out of the church hand in hand to the sound of Harry Connick Jr. singing...

"We go together, like a wink and a smile."
