On Our Shelves - May

I have added a lot of fun new learning activities to our shelf rotation this month...

Counting and Number Identification

I used the punch out circles from my Easter Egg Kit to make little number counters. We roll the die and then let the little bear hop to the correct number. Buddy LOVES this game!

I placed the same counters inside my muffin tin (please excuse how horrible it looks) and Buddy places the correct number of small rocks in each opening.

I found this printable here that is great for counting Snap Cubes or legos.

We will also be using the Snap Cubes to make Montessori Number Rods.

I found these printables here and are using them with clothespins, which help to develop the pincer grasp necessary for handwriting and dressing oneself.

I found these printables here. On the first set of numbers, I put a sticky velcro sticker on each dot for Buddy to place a small pom-pom as he counts.

This tray shows a set with no velcro, so he can use other objects as counters.

This tray has the same number cards as above, used with Bendy Craft Wax Sticks.

Shapes

These Shape Finders are great for playing I-Spy! I found them here.

Colors

Buddy already knows his colors, so I thought it would be fun to introduce him to "shades of color". I found this printable here. It originally had six places for each color, but I thought that would be too many shades for now, so I cut it off at three. I made the colored squares out of paint card samples from the paint store.

In and Out

This is a little activity I made up for Little Man. It kept his attention for quite some time. He enjoyed taking the clothespins in and out of the coffee can, as well as trying to put the lid on and take it off.

Movement

I was so excited to find these children's yoga pose cards over at Sew Liberated. I printed them at my local drugstore and then had them laminated at The School Box. Buddy already enjoys doing yoga poses with me. Now he can look at the pictures and do them on his own.

So those are some of the fun things that we added this month. I already have some ideas brewing in my head about some crafty things I want to make for next month. Too many ideas, too little time!

Always,

Amanda
